Asma AL-FARRAJ ALKETBI

Scientist, writer and researcher from United Arab Emirates, Ras Al-Khaimah, specifically AlMuireed. She graduated from the Geography Department at UAE University in 1988, and earned her PhD from University of Liverpool in 1996. Throughout her career, Dr. AlKetbi has been distinguished in her work. She has been the recipient of several awards; such as the Middle East Women Leaders Awards, Woman in Knowledge Management Excellence Award (2012), Abdul Hameed Shaman Award for Young Arab Scientists (2005), the Al-Sharja Award for Arabic Creativity (2004), as well as the Rashid Award (1997). She was chosen as a mother role model by Emarat Alyoum Newspaper in 2012. At the present she is the CEO of Decency Limited organization (for human rights) and CEO of Emirates Geographical Society. Before she was Associate Professor in physical Geography in UAE University. Between June, 2008 and January 2009 Dr. Al-Ketbi has been the Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington, DC. Before and after assuming her diplomatic post, Dr. Al-Ketbi gained recognition in the UAE and abroad for her scholarly interests and achievements, literary accomplishments, and dedication to community service. Since the acquisition of her Ph.D. from the University of Liverpool in 1996, Dr. Al-Ketbi has made a mark on the field of physical geography through the publication of numerous articles and conference presentations. She has written on diverse topics related to geomorphology and geography that have been published in a variety of international journals. Additionally, Dr. Al-Ketbi has presented her work in conferences around the world. She has contributed to academic discussions in a number of places, including UAE, USA, Spain, Brazil, Italy, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Not only has Dr. Al-Ketbi been a contributor to academic journals, but she has also been a referee for several peer-reviewed publications. She is a member of several international scientific organizations, and she is a founder of Decency Limited in 2013, and the founder UAE Geographical Association in 2009. While being a prolific author of scholarly articles, Dr. AlKetbi has also achieved recognition for her other literary accomplishments. She is a popular weekly contributor to Al Khaleej Newspaper, for which she writes the columns, Sardiat “Literature”, and Rahalat “Journeys”. Dr. AlKetbi’s professional work has been supplemented by her commitment to community service, the advancement of UAE University, and a dedication to the development of UAE culture and literature.
