This Workshop marks the first official meeting of two research groups: the Working Group of the I.A.G. "Geomorphological sites" (International Association of Geomorphologists) and the COFIN 2001-2003 Italian Research Project "Geosites in the Italian landscape". Several Italian and foreign scholars will meet to discuss the topic of geomorphological sites (geomorphosites), in order to assess the state-of-the art of the investigations and compare, connect and define the course of research, also by outlining future perspectives.

9:30 hrs Opening of the Workshop. Welcoming speeches by Mario Panizza (President of the I.A.G.), Emmanuel Reynard (Co-ordinator of the I.A.G. Working Group) and Sandra Piacente (National Co-ordinator of the COFIN 2001-2003 Research Project).

10:00 hrs Keynote Speakers (some to be confirmed):

The Workshop's official languages are English and Italian.

It will be possible to show overhead projections, slides or Power-Point presentations (computer video-projections); the slides, properly numbered in sequence, and the floppy discs or Cd files for Power-Point projection should be given in to the Workshop Secretary before the beginning of the sessions.

Selection of scientific contributions

Authors should specify in the registration form here enclosed whether they prefer to present their contribution as a spoken communication or poster. On the basis of the abstracts received, the Scientific Committee will select a certain number of scientific contributions which will be presented as spoken communications; the remaining ones will be proposed for the poster session.

Abstracts

The Abstracts, written in English, must not exceed 500 words. Figures, tables or bibliographic references are not admitted. Abstracts must be arranged as follows: Title of the article in block capitals, Surname and First name of the Author(s), Institution and Town of provenance, E-mail Address, Text. Abstracts must be sent in .doc or .rtf format, either on floppy disk or as e-mail attachments (abstracts sent by ordinary mail or faxed will not be accepted), by 6 May 2002 (deadline) to the following address:

As soon as the Abstracts are received, the Secretary of the Workshop will send an acknowledgement e-mail message to the authors.

Notice: Abstracts will not be accepted if the Workshop registration fee has not been paid.

Posters

The maximum exhibition space for posters will be illustrated in the next circular. The material for displaying the posters will be provided by the Secretary.

In case of cancellation, 75% of the amount paid will be refunded if notification reaches the Secretary before 10 June 2002. After this date, no refunding will be granted.

The reason for payment should be: "Registration Workshop Geomorphosites".

- The Workshop participation fee includes: participation in the sessions of 20/06/2002 and 22/06/2002, Workshop briefcase, programme, volume of abstracts, key-note papers, spoken presentations and posters; coffee-breaks and lunch of 20/06/2002.

- The excursion registration fee includes transport by coach, lunch and various descriptive material.

For admission to the Workshop premises it is necessary to be regularly registered and display the identification tag.

How to reach the Workshop venue

From Modena railway station

From the railway station it is possible to reach the Workshop (Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra, Largo S. Eufemia 19, opposite the Cathedral) with buses nos. 7 and 11, which depart from the square of the station (Piazza Dante), as far as the central Via Emilia, in proximity with the Cathedral. Still from the railway station, the venue can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes following Via Ganaceto and Via Badia.

From the motorway

From the exits of motorway A1 'Modena Nord' or 'Modena Sud', follow the signposts to the city centre. As for cars, a free parking place is located by the Novi Sad Park, near Piazza S. Agostino. Again, following the Via Emilia on foot, the venue can be reached in about 5-10 minutes.

From Bologna airport

The nearest airport is Bologna "Guglielmo Marconi", from which buses to Modena depart every hour.
