Election Approaching!
Date: 16 October 2000

At the Fifth International Conference on Geomorphology in Tokyo in August 2001 the Council will elect the new Executive Committee to serve for the period 2001-2005. According to the Constitution the current Vice-President, Professor Mario Panizza, Italy, automatically succeeds to the Presidency, whereas the other positions in the Executive are subject to election. Each National Scientific Member is welcome to nominate candidates for the following posts within the Executive: the Vice-President, the Secretary General, the Treasurer, the Publication Officer, and two other members. Letters of nominations have to be delivered to the Secretary in writing, by late spring 2001 at latest, and not later than July 20, 2001.

Letters must contain the name of the candidate, the position for which he/she is standing, his/her brief CV which could be displayed and/or distributed to the National Representatives, and the agreement of the candidate in writing. If a nomination for the post of the Treasurer is considered, please ensure that banking facilities in the country are adequate to run the IAG finances smoothly and efficiently. Candidates are nominated by individual National Scientific Members, but in order to increase a candidate's chances national organisations are encouraged to seek support from other countries before the nomination is presented. The presence of a nominee at the Council Meeting is not essential but strongly recommended.

In order to encourage discussions and make an informed decision there will be two Council Meetings at the Fifth International Conference on Geomorphology in Tokyo, separated by one and a half day. Candidates for each post are to be briefly presented in public by the National Representative at the first meeting whereas the voting itself will occur at the second meeting. This will allow ample time to consider all pros and cons for each candidate and to consult other members of national organisations.

For details of specific responsibilities assigned to members of the Executive, please consult the Constitution of the IAG

Piotr Migon
Secretary General of the IAG
