The Sixth International Conference on Geomorphology will be taking place in 2005. Proposals from National Scientific Members willing to host the next Conference are welcome. Proposals will be presented at the Council Meeting at the Conference in Tokyo in August 2001 and, following the rules of the IAG Constitution, the final decision is to be made by voting, with each member country casting one vote. Proposals to host the Sixth Conference have to be submitted to the Secretary in writing before May 20, 2001.

Each national organisation affiliated to the IAG is welcome, and encouraged, to submit an application to host the Sixth International Conference on Geomorphology. It is widely recognised that organisation of the major IAG conference provides a unique opportunity for a national group to promote both geomorphology and the country itself, and is regarded as a service to international science. Offers to act as host for an International Conference on Geomorphology shall be received by the Secretary at least three months in advance of the preceding International Conference. The only initial requirement is that the inviting country must provide assurance that no individual will be denied attendance on grounds of nationality, race, gender, creed or political views. Arrangements for the International Conference on Geomorphology are the responsibility of the Organising Committee of the host country, in consultation with the President and Secretary.

Procedures to decide the venue for the next conference will be split between the two council meetings. At the first council meeting nominees will make a presentation and the voting will occur at the second council meeting. This will allow ample time to consider all pros and cons for each candidate and to consult other members of national organisations before an informed decision is made.
