China-Japan Joint International Geomorphological Conference

REPORT

The Conference was held in Kunming, China, 17 - 23 November 2002, organized by Yunnan University and the Japanese Geomorphological Union (JGU) and sponsored by the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG) and Department of Science and Technology of Yunnan Government, China. The Conference received 74 abstracts in total. The presentation was composed of Special lectures (4 titles), Oral (17 papers), and Poster presentation (20 posters from Japanese side and 6 from Chinese side), in addition to three-day main field excursion (Soil Forest, Yuanmou Man site and Stone Forest) and one-day additional field excursion (Lufeng Dinosaur site). Final number of registrants was 108, including 67 from China, 40 from Japan and 1 from Korea. The Conference was superbly organized by Prof. Tang, C. (Yunnan Univ.), Prof. Li. S. (Department of Science and Technology of Yunnan Government), Prof. Ni, H. (Yunnan Univ.) of Chinese side, and Prof. Kashiwaya, K. (Kanazawa Univ.) and Prof. Saito, K. (Saitama Univ.) of the JGU side. The JGU has held joint conferences with Taiwan in 1996, Korea in 1999 and this time China in 2002, and hopes to hold such a joint conference with Pacific and Asian countries in the future as a part of the IAG activities.
