Call for Grants for the 16th National Symposium on Geomorphology SINAGEO (Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, Brazil, 5–11 June 2027)

The International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG) announces the offering of one travel grant of €400 (four hundred Euros) to support the participation of one Young Geomorphologist* from Latin America (excluding Brazil) in the 16th National Symposium on Geomorphology SINAGEO “Geomorphology for a World in Transformation: Landscapes, Extreme Events, and Society” (Foz do Iguaçu – Paraná, Brazil, 5–11 June 2027). The event is promoted by the Brazilian Geomorphology Union (UGB) and supported by the IAG. The official language of SINAGEO will be Portuguese, and some activities will be offered in English. Additionally, to the IAG travel grant, the Organizing Committee will waive the registration fee. Moreover, the IAG grant holder will be invited to participate in one pre-defined field trip and in one mini-course. The winner will also be invited to participate in Delta H (https://www.deltahbrasil.com/), an open parallel event dedicated to discussions and exchanges among young geomorphologists and researchers interested in geomorphology, to be held on June 12th, 2027.

 The SINAGEO is the main geomorphological event in Brazil organized every two years since 1996. The conference gathers researchers, professors, students, and professionals in geomorphology to exchange knowledge on theoretical, methodological, and applied advances in the field. It aims to strengthen collaboration among research groups, institutions, and regions, while promoting geomorphology as a scientific discipline. Key themes include landscape dynamics, geomorphological processes, and their environmental and social implications. The 2027 edition will address pressing environmental challenges, including rapid environmental change, extreme events, and increasing pressure on natural systems. The conference will emphasize the integration of scientific knowledge with territorial management, with particular attention to land-use change, soil erosion and compaction, and their impacts on water resources and environmental systems in the highly productive and intensively occupied western region of Paraná. The program will include keynote lectures, thematic sessions, oral and poster presentations, mini-courses, workshops, and field trips. These activities provide an important academic environment for young geomorphologists, especially undergraduate and graduate students, to present their research, receive feedback, participate in training activities, and strengthen national and international scientific networks.

Applications from candidates who already achieved one or more IAG grants totaling 500 euros or more in the past 3 years will not be eligible.

Candidates for IAG GRANT are requested to submit the following files up to Monday 28 September 2026:

  • Application form (docx / pdf)
  • Short CV (maximum 2 pages long), including up to 10 papers related to the Symposium themes
  • Certificate of the highest degree achieved (with the date of achievement).
  • Abstract submitted or to be submitted to the Symposium (Portuguese, Spanish or English).

Criteria to be proved by the CV and abstract submitted to the Symposium:

  1. Scientific content based on the abstract (relevance to the symposium, scientific value, clarity in terms of Portuguese/Spanish/English and structure).
  2. Academic activities based on the CV (dissemination of scientific results, e.g., publications, conferences, additional community activities such as event organisation, editorial activities, outreach, etc.).

*Undergraduate or postgraduate – Masters/PhD students or scientists who have received their highest degree, i.e. BSc, MSc, or PhD, within the past seven years. Provided parental leave fell into that period, up to one year of parental leave time may be added per child, where appropriate.
