IAG Memorandum of Understanding with the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA)

Memorandum of Understanding between
the INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR QUATERNARY RESEARCH (INQUA)
and the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF GEOMORPHOLOGISTS
June 2025
As allied Organizations, the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG) and the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA) will work together in cooperation and friendship to further develop their shared aims of promoting Geomorphology and Quaternary sciences professions.
IAG will identify INQUA as one of its Associated Societies, and as such will promote INQUA’s mission and activities. Similarly, INQUA will identify IAG as one of its Associated Societies, and as such will promote IAG’s mission and activities.
An affiliation between the IAG and the INQUA can promote the following (not an all-inclusive list):
- The extension of benefits to members of both Organizations.
- The exchange of information on key programs and initiatives.
- The expansion of membership of both Organizations through possible joint programs.
- The organization of joint meetings.
- Additional educational opportunities, professional services, and student programs.
In recognition of mutual interests among their members and as a means of furthering the common goals and objectives of each Organization, the executive officers of the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA) and the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG) agree to a mutual alliance of the two Organizations under the following terms:
- Each Organization shall not have any financial obligation to the other.
- The business offices of both Organizations shall exchange announcements and promote the scientific and technical meetings of their respective Organizations. To promote this, IAG will advertise the INQUA programs on their website, and INQUA should also advertise IAG programs on their website.
- A representative (or alternate) from the INQUA will be designated to attend major IAG meetings, monitor IAG developments of mutual interest, report back to the INQUA leadership on a regular basis, and act as a liaison between the IAG and INQUA and vice versa.
- Each Organization shall offer the other Organization a booth at its annual meeting, discounting the price at least by 50%.
- The Organizations shall consider jointly publishing books on subjects of high interest to their respective memberships.
- The Organizations shall consider jointly holding small research conferences and/or co-organizingjoint topical meetings or sessions at each other’s meetings/conferences or other Organization’s meetings/conferences.
- To encourage young scientists, both IAG and INQUA should offer some travel grants to participate in International Conferences / Intensive Training Programmes. The number of grants or the amount and selection of the candidates should be decided by the individual Organizations independently.
- Each Organization will offer members of the other Organization member rates to attend their annual meeting.
- This agreement shall be reviewed every five (5) years.
- This agreement may be dissolved by either Organization at any time with a 30-day written notice to the executive office of either Organization.
