First UNESCO International Day of Caves and Karst (Postojna, Slovenia, 10-13 September 2026)

In 2025, UNESCO proclaimed the 13th of September as the International Day of Caves and Karst (IDCK). The first celebration of this event will take place in Postojna (Slovenia), on 10-13 September 2026, organised by the Karst Research Institute ZRC SAZU and the International Union Of Speleology (UIS).

The celebration will take the form of an international scientific conference, with keynote lectures and oral presentations from participants. The preliminary programme also includes two field excursions: one to the Škocjan Caves and Pivka Intermittent Lakes; the other to the Planina Cave, natural bridges in Rakov Škocjan, and Cerknica Polje. Other events are planned: a Meeting of Speleologists, 3D cave presentations, as well as the official IDCK ceremony in the Postojna Cave!

You can submit an abstract until 26 June, and registration closes on 28 August. Find detailed information on the event here: https://izrkp.zrc-sazu.si/en/dogodki/international-day-of-caves-and-karst-idck
