First UNESCO International Day of Caves and Karst (Postojna, Slovenia, 10-13 September 2026)

In 2025, UNESCO proclaimed the 13th of September as the International Day of Caves and Karst (IDCK). The first celebration of this event will take place in Postojna (Slovenia), on 10-13 September 2026, organised by the Karst Research Institute ZRC SAZU and the International Union Of Speleology (UIS).

The celebration will take the form of an international scientific conference, with keynote lectures and oral presentations from participants. The preliminary programme also includes two field excursions: one to the Škocjan Caves and Pivka Intermittent Lakes; the other to the Planina Cave, natural bridges in Rakov Škocjan, and Cerknica Polje. Other events are planned: a Meeting of Speleologists, 3D cave presentations, as well as the official IDCK ceremony in the Postojna Cave!

Reports by IAG Grant Holders – ICG 2026 and Young Geomorphologists Training Program (Christchurch, New Zealand, 2-6 February 2026)

The International Conference on Geomorphology 2026 took place in Christchurch (New Zealand) on 2-6 February 2026. Around the conference, from January 30th to February 7th, was also organised the Young Geomorphologists Training Program. The IAG provided 20 grants to help Young Geomorphologists to attend the conference and the Training Program. Congratulations to all Grant Holders!

During the Training Program, Grant Holders participated in a wide variety of events: field trips, different workshops, social events, networking events… Overall, they are all grateful for these Grants which allowed them to participate in an event they describe as an “unforgettable” and “highly rewarding” experience. They notably highlight that the conference was “very well organised”, and praise the “cultural discovery” of New Zealand’s native people that was part of the conference.
