Achim A. Beylich is a geomorphologist with more than 26 years of work experience in field- and laboratory based quantitative process geomorphic research in various climatic environments and landscapes in Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Canada, Russia, Germany, Austria, Norway and Spain. Since 2004 he has been initiating and leading a number of large international and interdisciplinary research networks and programs on geomorphologic earth surface processes and landscape development under ongoing or accelerated climate change and increasing anthropogenic impacts and pressures. During his scientific career he has been working at research institutes and universities in Germany, Sweden, Iceland, Canada and Norway, and since March 2018 he is Head of Operations of the Geomorphological Field Laboratory (GFL) in Selbustrand, Norway. He is a research scientist with formal Professor rank in geomorphology and with more than 100 scientific publications in journals and books and numerous edited works, including 17 journal special issues, the SEDIBUD synthesis book on Source-to-Sink Fluxes in Undisturbed Cold Environments published by Cambridge University Press, and the edited book on Landscapes and Landforms of Norway as part of the IAG-endorsed Springer book series on World Geomorphological Landscapes. He has been acting as mentor, supervisor/co-supervisor for numerous Master students and several PhD-students. Achim A. Beylich is Editor-in-Chief for the scientific journal Geomorphology (Elsevier), Topical Editor for the journal Earth System Science Data (ESSD, Copernicus), an Editorial Board Member or Academic Editor for several international scientific journals, and serves as a frequent peer-reviewer for a number of scientific journals and as an expert for several national and international funding agencies and panels. Since 2004 he has been regularly invited to serve as guest scientist, guest lecturer or visiting professor at various research institutes and universities in different countries. He was the Chair of the IAG Working Group SEDIBUD (2005-2017) and he has been the Chair (2017-2022) of the IAG Working Group DENUCHANGE. He was Chair (09/2019 – 01/2023) of the IAG National Scientific Members (NSM) Norway (GeoNor 09/2019 – 01/2023), and since 2019 he has been the initiator and Coordinator of the National Scientific Member GeoNorth (Nordic Group Member and IAG Network including geomorphology groups from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and Norway). He also serves as a Board Member of NGF (Geological Society of Norway) Trondheim (2022-2024). Since September 2022 he is the elected Secretary General of the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG).
